Nutanix and AMD Unleash Expanded Portfolio for Hybrid Multicloud Platforms with EPYC® 9004 Series Processors

September 5, 2023 | min

We are excited to announce that Nutanix and AMD are deepening our technology collaboration by expanding our joint platform offerings with the latest EPYC® 9004 Series processors. This enhanced partnership underscores the shared commitment of both AMD and Nutanix in driving customer success and innovation. Nutanix unites public cloud simplicity and agility with private cloud performance and security while AMD is a technology leader in high performance computing and holds 300+ world records for AMD EPYC Processors across nearly every type of application and workload.

The collaboration between Nutanix and AMD started back in 2018 with early R&D exploration efforts of the AMD EPYC 7001 Series. The partnership has since evolved into the broad platform portfolio offered today with AMD EPYC 7003 and EPYC 9004 series spanning 3-way HPE, Dell and Lenovo collaborations. With the latest AMD EPYC 9004 series, Nutanix is also planning for the introduction of new NX™ platform models.

The AMD EPYC 9004 Series of processors builds on AMD’s mission to accelerate next-generation computing experiences, as they leverage the high-performance “Zen 4” architecture with up to 96 cores per socket, and with energy efficiency thanks to 5 nm process technology. The new AMD EPYC 9004 Series introduces support for high performance DDR5 DIMMs, fast PCIe® Gen 5 I/O, and support for 12 memory channels, delivering the resources needed for memory hungry AI, ML, HPC, and large in-memory computations. These processors are built with security-first principles by offering AMD Infinity Guard™ technology with workload protections at both the software and system level.

Our collaborative solutions maximize the value we bring to our customers and tap into the hardware and software innovations offered by Nutanix and AMD EPYC processors. These solutions overcome the limitations of compute-storage-network, 3-tier infrastructure and provide a cloud operating model across diverse workloads on premises, in the cloud, or at the edge. Our portfolio covers the major Nutanix-focused solutions with a wide variety of component choices.

AMD Genoa models from Lenovo and HPE

The Nutanix Cloud Platform™ software is currently available with certified AMD Genoa models from Lenovo and HPE. Dell and NX  systems are expected to follow. Lenovo will support three AMD® models, two of them new with this generation, focused on higher capacity. The HPE® models now also include a 1U direct attach All-NVMe platform. These models support a wide range of Nvidia® GPU (L/H-series) cards for your virtual desktop and machine learning applications.

The capacity-optimized systems are perfect for Nutanix Files Storage™ and Objects Storage™ workloads. Earlier this year, new software capabilities were introduced in Nutanix Objects Storage. These include simpler access to distributed data with federation capabilities to enable a single global namespace across multiple geographies. Objects Storage also introduced consolidated views of data with Object Buckets.

AMD EPYC processor-based solutions

To help our customers make the right platform decision, we have integrated AMD EPYC processor-based solutions into our workload sizing and quoting tools. With the launch of AMD EPYC 9004 Series processors, we are very excited about the future possibilities and the portfolio expansion across our OEM partners over the next few quarters… stay tuned!
