Hybrid work is still very much a work in progress. Some companies have gone to fully remote work, while others offer it temporarily before a return to the office. Still others leave it up to the employee to decide where to set up shop.

“The argument that employees can’t collaborate as effectively when working remotely has been disproved over the past 21 months,” said Harry Mosely, CIO at Zoom, speaking at the .NEXT Conference in September 2021.

However, he was quick to add, “The challenge is how do you maintain an organizational culture? Connections among people?”

IT Leaders Bust Myths About Productivity in Hybrid Workplaces

Hybrid, flexible work will be a standard practice over the next three years, according to three-fourths of respondents in an October 2021 global survey by Economist Impact. Business leaders concur, with 72% saying they’ll support a hybrid work model in their companies.

This means a bigger dependence on reliable Internet access and secure access to applications and data, whether those run in a company’s data center or a cloud service. Expectations for enterprise cloud technologies are intensifying and it’s leading new partnerships in order to ensure interoperability.

Nutanix and Citrix recently teamed up to help customers equip their employees with the data, apps and services that have become essential in the hybrid work era. Namely, the virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) and desktop-as-a-service (DaaS) technologies, which allow IT teams to securely stream company applications and data to employee laptops and computing devices.

Organizations using Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops can now benefit from joint development and integration between Citrix and Nutanix, according to executives from each company who spoke during the .NEXT Conference in September 2021.

They explained their intention to speed innovation around end-user computing technologies. They talked about improving security plus on-demand and elastic access to apps, desktops and data from any device in any location.

These end user computing efforts take advantage of Nutanix hyperconverged infrastructure (HCI) and hybrid multicloud IT capabilities.

Hybrid Work Meets Hybrid Cloud

There’s an escalating need for greater operational control with the ability to continually optimize IT environments, according to Tarkan Maner, Chief Commercial Officer at Nutanix. He described how IT leaders need consistent visibility, security and cost control both on-prem and in the public cloud. These capabilities can bring cost savings, easier application and workload portability, and improved overall security and compliance.

“This partnership makes Nutanix a Citrix preferred provider of hybrid and multicloud deployments and Citrix a preferred Nutanix enterprise end-user computing solution on the Nutanix Cloud Platform,” said Maner.

“It provides our customers and partners with an open, flexible, enterprise platform for hybrid end-user computing.”

The tighter collaboration between the two companies helps ensure interoperability and access to new features as they become available. It also brings joint training and alignment of processes to meet customer needs.

“Thousands of customers, including the largest global enterprises, are already relying on Citrix on Nutanix,” said Sridhar Mullapudi, Citrix EVP of Product Management.

“Companies that can successfully support a hybrid workforce will have a key advantage in attracting and retaining talent.”

Mullapudi explained that the collaboration is intended to help customers leverage the benefits of hybrid multicloud.

“Everybody expects hybrid, and companies must pursue it to scale operations and create a competitive advantage,” he said.

The execs discussed how IT teams can use the Nutanix Cloud Platform for Citrix VDI and DaaS to support hybrid work using Nutanix-powered private clouds and across Amazon Web Services (AWS) public cloud, and soon Microsoft Azure and other public clouds.
